The story of the Cartier Trinity begins in 1924 — three interlocking bands with not a gemstone in sight, a brave departure from the extravagant accessories of the time. Each band carried its own meaning: yellow gold for fidelity, rose gold for love, and white gold for friendship. Jean Cocteau became one of its most celebrated early devotees, famously wearing two rings stacked on his little finger, and his patronage turned the piece into a symbol of avant-garde Paris. The Duke of Windsor and Grace Kelly followed.
When Cartier translated the Trinity into a watch, the three bands became the case itself — jewellery and timepiece dissolving into one. Production ceased in the 2000s, making surviving examples increasingly sought after.
This example features all three golds with a sunburst diamond dial. Quartz movement.
