The Panthère de Cartier arrived in 1983 during an era of unabashed glamour — and became an instant icon. Envisioned as a watch that doubled as jewellery, it blurred the line between the two in a way few objects have managed before or since. The panther had long been central to the Maison's identity — Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier's legendary creative director and nicknamed La Panthère, had woven the cat motif throughout the Maison's jewellery for decades. The watch merely gave it a new form.
The Panthère Vendôme is an elegant extension of that legacy — and one that adds another layer of Cartier history entirely. The Vendôme name is a tribute to the Place Vendôme, the historic Parisian square that has long served as the beating heart of the French jewellery and watchmaking world. The two distinctive horizontal lugs are said to represent the two streets that lead into the square — Rue de la Paix and Rue de Castiglione.
Condition
This piece is in excellent condition and had a complete service at Cartier in February 2026. The dial was also replaced and the piece lightly polished. It comes with original box and papers (1997)
